Gulets are traditional handmade wooden boats of southcoast
of Turkey. They are motor sailors with a full ketch,
schooner, gulet or gaff riggings. Gulets range in size from
4 to 12 cabins, each cabin with its ensuite toilet and
shower facilities. The crew have their own quarters. On
deck, there is a large space with sun mattresses, for people
to enjoy the sun. Aft deck and mid-deck have sun awnings,
spacious area with cushioned seats, large dining table where
people get together for meals, to talk, to play cards, or
just to relax during the day in a more cool area.
Additionally, there is an indoor lounge with a dining table
and a bar, big enough to seat all the guests, if they prefer
to dine or relax below the deck. There is a full equipped
galley,where the meals are prepared.
A crew of three or four (captain, deckhand, cook) are
continuously at your service. They make sure that everything
runs smoothly, and provide you with all your needs.
There are classic itineraries that are followed, but changes
can be made according to your requests. Although gulet
charter is for a week or two, with arrivals and departures
mostly on Saturdays, adjustments can be made according to
your plans (e.g 5 days cruise from Sat-Wed). The ports of
embarkation and disembarkation can be the same or different.
If you have no idea about your itinerary, we will offer you
possible itineraries for you to choose among.
The duration of the daily cruises set to be as short as
possible, letting the clients to have enough free time to
spend as they wish. That's why gulets are cruising with
engine, but whenever there is a suitable wind and if you are
crazy for sailing, the captain is ready to set the sails on.
The daily routine on board is 3-4 hours cruising, and the
rest of the day to be spent exploring one of the secluded,
pine covered bays along the coast, sunbathing on the deck,
swimming in clear turquoise waters, snorkeling, windsurfing,
fishing, or just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful nature.
Once you are at anchorage, you may have a trip to shore,
where you trek in the wild nature and explore the caves,
visit one of the numerous ancient sites or a nearby village,
where you meet native people.
Food and Drinks: Before starting your cruise, it is
necessary to stock the yacht with food and other provisions.
Main shopping is done at the port of embarkation. During
your charter, additional shopping will be done at ports
where you are stopping for fresh fruits, vegetables, fish,
etc. as needed.
All meals can be provided on board by paying additional full
board supplement. This price includes breakfast, lunch,
afternoon tea, dinner, and some drinks (tea, coffee, water
served during the meals). All other drinks (soft or
alcoholic) are available on board at extra cost. If you
want, you may take a full board from the boat but supply
your own drinks. To fulfill your requirements and to make
sure we do our best, "Food and Drinks Preference Form" will
be sent to you. This form to be returned to us 2 weeks prior
to Charter.
The clients, if they prefer, can buy their own food and
drinks. In that case, they have to buy food for the crew as
well. Even if you do your own shopping, the crew will be in
charge of cooking, serving the meals and cleaning.
Helpful Tips For Gulet Cruisers
Space on gulets is limited, so travel light ! Do not bring a
rigid suitcase, use soft (canvas) luggage that can be stored
under the bed. Life on board is informal. You won't need
much daytime clothing. Just your swimwear, a pair of shorts,
and a top for when you have had too much sun. You may need a
sweat shirt or tracksuit for late nights on deck
(particularly at the beginning or end of season)
Things you will need
a towel for sunbathing and taking ashore
a sweater for evenings
washing powder or travel wash is useful
suntan lotion or cream (not suntan oil to avoid slipping
on/or staining the deck) mosquito repellent (you can buy
this when you arrive)
a pair of cheap canvas or plastic shoes you don't mind
getting wet for use on the windsurf or on rocks
cigarettes, if you are a smoker. They are sometimes hard
to find at sea.
adequate insurance to cover watersports
gratuity for the captain and the crew (at your own
discretion)
snorkeling equipment for keen snorkellers. There are
several sets on board, but you may have to wait your
turn.
a travel adapter for any of your electrical appliances.
The Turkish system is two round pins.
Things you won't need
a lot of warm clothing
towels for the cabin and toilet paper. They are provided
by the boat.
a lot of Turkish money. It is best to change your cash
or travelers cheque locally, as required.
Important Points To Note
Normally, on air-conditioned boats, the generator will
not run throughout the night, due to noise.
Smoking is not allowed in the cabins.
The tender can be run by a member of the crew and its
use is restricted.
The common practice is to to take off the shoes and be "barefoot"
on board. If you don't like to be barefoot, have a pair
of shoe (deckshoe, canvas shoe) to be used only on
board.
You can draw cash from your credit cards at cash
dispensers, banks or change offices. But cards cannot be
used in all places.
You may like to bring your favorite CDs or tapes to
enjoy during your cruise.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, bad weather conditions
or for your own safety, the planned itinerary may have
to be changed at a short notice. The Captain's decision
is final in all matters.
